Jacob Shock
http://www.hookahcompany.com/japanese_styl...s_3190_prd1.htmthese thing arent bad, there actully good. really good for the price.there not quite golden canarys but there still up there.if goldens are coconara then these are the CH hookah of japs. thats isnt the best camparison. if goldens are worth $15 a box, then these should be worth $12. ih303
I'm not a fan of japanese coals in any variety. I hate how messy that silver stuff is. I also find I taste japanese coals more than I do any other type of coal. I suppose I just don't understand why anyone would use these when there are better coals available out there. Just like I don't understand why anyone uses chop sticks when there are forks available. To each their own, I guess.

foibled again
They burn hotter than real Japanese cokes/charcoals (GC or Abu Hitham), ash buildup causes temperature fluctuations (more so than the real ones), they will leave your fingers silvers, and they're a bitch to break. Other than that they're actually pretty good. I agree with HC in that they are the best Chinese Japanese-style cokes/charcoals.The Coconara -> CH nats comparison is unfair to CH nats. seefoodlover
I have run out of my good coals, so i have been using my jap coals for a couple a weeks now. They are ok. I can taste coal though, and i don't really like it. They get me pretty good clouds though.
antouwan
pardon my thread jacking BUT, i'm not a fan of '-style' anything. for some reason the vendors think that adding the suffix 'style' makes knockoffs okay. if they used that method towards something else, say pipes, we would all be screaming scandal. imagine someone online posting up a piece of anodized aluminum crap and called it 'qt style hookah' or 'km style' or 'nour syrian style' to me it just raises huge red flags, especially in the areas of quality and origin. Sonthert
Family style are OK...nowhere near as good Canaries or Abu Hitham Japanese. I think Easy Lites are slightly better. Don't judge Japanese coals by them, though.
Codename067
Those coals are decent. I smoked an entire bowl through them, and the only thing I didn't like was the fact that they didn't last as long as I would have liked them to.

Don't judge Japanese coals by them, though.I agree with Easy Lights being pretty decent, especially for the price i can get them locally (about 6 bucks the last time i remember), I've had exotica Jap Styles and they are ok, but easy lights i enjoy, even though they do tend to break on their own quite often (about 1 in every 10 coals i have will split while i'm lighting them, which is fine because i split them often times anyways)
Sonthert
The main complaints I had from customers about them was that the silver paint rubbed off on your fingers and made a mess and that the bars were extremely difficult to break on the score marks.
